The Story Begins in the City of Crossroads Empty The Story Begins in the City of Crossroads

---Yen'Alabre enters the "Town Square Inn & Tavern" smiling to himself about the rather classical name for the establishment. Then again, the town's name was "Crossroads" afterall, so perhaps it was just a local theme of somekind to be deliberately simple? The eladrin chuckled to himself quietly as he took a seat at a table against the wall to the east of the entrance. As he took in his surroundings he noticed it was relatively quiet, very clean, and had an overall friendly atmosphere. A bulletin was centered on the west wall. Within a few moments a serving girl approached his table, "Hello," he says with a warm smile.
---"Gooday sir," She says cheerfully. "My name is Rosalyn and I'll be taking care of you today, so call me if you need anything. Today we're serving a beef n' barley stew with fresh bread n' butter, and our house drinks are the Crossroad's Amber, Stout, Chardonnay and Merlot. Of course if that's not to your liking our cook can prepare you something special, for a small upcharge."
---"Oh no that's fine, stew sounds great. I'm afraid my coin pouch is getting light though, I'll just have water to drink please."
---"Of course, no problem, and will that be everything for you today?"
---"Yes, thank you Rosalyn."
---"You're very welcome." She said, obviously pleased that her client payed attention to her name, and turned to walk to the kitchen. The 'young' mage rose to his feet and left the table to go check out the message board... Adds, adds, more adds...

'Blacksmith just imported some fine dwarven steel, great for high quality custom-made merchandise,

Suffering from wounds or afflictions? Come to the Temple of Pelor! Town Square's Inn & Tavern, right next to

satisfaction! Lord Foval is hosting a warrior's tournament next month.'

---Yen notices Rosalyn entering the common room from the kitchen with a mug of water in hand. He smiles at her and nods a thankyou before turning back to the bulletin.

'Zanzibar's Wondrous Caravan of Rare and Exotic Goods will be in town next week for seven days only!
Are you a local resident? Do you think you have what it takes to be a member of the militia? Come see Captain
Jim Jenkins at the Bahamut's Barracks to discuss formal training. If you need a new ritual come copy one of ours
at Ioun's Library.

---Ooh, a library. I'll have to go see that when I'm done eating.' He thinks to himself and discontinues scanning the board to walk back to his table, and water. 'Perhaps I'll read the rest later. A library would be so wonderful right about now... when was the last time I read a book?' He takes a good long swig after seating himself facing the door, and closes his eyes to slip into trance while he waits for his meal.

The Story Begins in the City of Crossroads Empty At the Town Square Tavern

Post  Zanillo Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:59 pm

--- Boten had watched the whole antidramatic scene unfold as the grey elf entered the tavern, read the board, and proceeded to eat his meal when it had arrived. He sat back in his booth, deciding that despite the feykin wearing armor he was indeed a magic-weilder, the rune-inscribed staff was just too obvious to ignore. When the wizard was nearly done eating the dwarf rose to his feet and walked over to him.
---"Hello," Yen says, as if he had been expecting the dwarf.
---"I heard ye say ye were runnin' low on coins." Boten states, seating himself across from the eladrin, who didn't respond, but sat quietly with a slight smile on his face. After several moments the dwarf spoke again, "Me name's Boten Grimsteel and it jus' so happens that I've got an opening in me band for a spellthrower."
---Silence again reigned for a short minute before Yen responded thoughtfully, "Tell me more of this band."
---"Ye were readin' the bulletin earlier right? Mayhaps ye read something about the Ironwolves Comp'ny? It's the Mercenary Guild in these parts. When a client comes to the Ironwolves askin' to get a job done, me band is one o' the units that might get the job. Course, if ye were to join the guild ye also might get special requests for just your magely skills as well."
---"Hmm... interesting. Well I could use the income, I suppose it can't hurt to come take a look. Are there any membership fees or issues that might arise should one decide to terminate their involvement?"
---The dwarf gave a short laugh about the last half of the question, "Nope and not that I know of. The company takes a share of the reward to pay for their services in organizing the job, and the only trouble ye might get into for being a former member would be if ye were still workin' for the Ironwolves' clients," the dwarf explained, and the eladrin nodded, satisfied with the answer, "Oh, 'ello Rosalyn, would ye do me a favor and put this one's meal on me tab?" Boten said as the serving girl came to take the empty bowl away.
---"Oh, of course."
---"The name is Yen'Alabre Tiphwing, and thank you for the generosity." He says to the dwarf, and then as he places three copper pieces in Rosalyn's hand, "And thank you for your wonderful service, I look forward to enjoying it again soon." And with that, the two new aquantainces depart the Town Square Tavern.

The Story Begins in the City of Crossroads Empty At the Ironwolves' HQ

Post  Zanillo Sun Dec 06, 2009 7:05 am

---"This is our new wizard... Yen Tiphwing." The black haired dwarf announces to the other members of the Greypelt Gang as they entered the Ironwolves commonroom. There were just two other members, a massively-muscled dark-scaled dragonborn and a blue-haired halfling wearing a fedora. "Yen, this is Krin Dasivar and Olli Fox."
---Krin places his hands together in front of his chest and does a slight bow, "Welcome."
---Olli sweeps his hat in a great flourish as he goes into a deep bow, "Glad ta have ya aboard mate!"
---The silver-haired high elf returns the bow, a dip of a distance somewhere inbetween theirs. "Thank you. I look forward to working with you."

---Earlier Boten had lead Yen to the Ironwolves Complex, and shown him around the relatively simple three story building. Inside on the ground floor there was a great desk with several clerks working with which they requested a tabard and officially signed Yen to the Greypelt Gang charter. Behind them doors lead to the other offices, and to the left were great double doors leading to the commonroom, and from there an entrance to the basement training facility, which Boten had explained includes the armory and such. To the right a staircase lead to the upper floors, where the higher ranked Ironwolves had private dorms, among other perks and who knows what.

---Now Yen at least had a free place to stay, for the first month after which he was expected to pay the annual membership fee of ten gold pieces. Trial membership or the like till then.
---"So how does getting a job work?" The mage asked Boten after he had spread his bedroll out next to the others' and was sitting comfortably.
---"Some jobs are posted on the board there where Krin is," The dwarf replies, gesturing to the wall, "Open contracts like bounties go there, first come first serve, we have teh compete wit' the other 'wolves sometimes. Otherwise we can go teh the clerk desk and they will set us up with something appropriate for our squad's rank, if there's anythin' available. Sometimes we'll get a messenger from one o' the managers, with requests involvin' our specific skills... and from what I've heard, if ye happen to be in one o' the top merc's good books, they will pass along jobs that they don't have time for or aren't paying enough to their liking. Any jobs we do we get 60% of the payment, the other 40% goes to the Comp'ny."
---"Hmm. I see. And while you were giving me the tour you mentioned something about a job?"
---"Yep. Tomorrow we're going out teh meet some loggers who stumbled 'cross some kind o' ruins. Luck for us, the other two local bands are out on business so we landed it, we were jus' waitin' on hiring a new arcanist, some kind of runes about the ruins. Heh. Best get some shut eye, we've a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

The Story Begins in the City of Crossroads Empty The Quest Begins

Post  Zanillo Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:03 am

---The Greypelt Gang left for the village of Cipal early the next morning, catching a ride on the wagon of a local merchant by the name of Logan Wheelstead. The last wisps of cold north wind made the spring air start out slightly crisp, but it wasn't long before the rays of the sun spread their golden warmth across the country side.
---Boten chatted with Logan at the head of the wagon while Yen familiarized himself with Olli and Krin. Mostly with Olli, as Krin didn't seem to be much of a conversationist. Yen learned that the Greypelt Gang was relatively new, having only done two simple jobs before they were hired to guard Logan's caravan as he travelled on a road recently rumored to be plagued by bandits. Unfortunately for them, their wizard was actually working for the bandits. After the trio made short work of the arcanist and half of the raiding party the remaining survivors fled.
---"So don't be offended if it takes some time for the others to warm up to ya," the halfling had told the elf, "Once you show 'em what your made of they'll come around."

---It was nearly nightfall when the wagon came to a stop in front of a single building along the road. A sign above the door read "The Half-Way House", Yen smiled at the name. Logan lead the way inside, first asking Boten and Krin to each grab a keg off the wagon.
---"Greetings Logan!" Boomed a low, but jolly voice. Yen followed the others inside to see a rather portly barkeep throwing a bearhug on the merchant.
---"Hello old friend." Logan replied with a grin, "I've brought you a crossroad's keg of each, thought you might be able to give me and the boys a place to stay for the night."
---A big smile made the man's cheeks seem even larger, "Of course! Of course!"
---The barkeep, Andre Gillard, who was also the owner as well as a capable bouncer and cook, treated Logan and his friends well that night. Perhaps a bit too well Yen thought when he opened his eyes from trance the next morning, still feeling a heaviness in his head from the late-night festivities. He sat up in bed for a moment and smiled to himself, he couldn't complain, he hadn't slept in a real bed in a private room for nearly a year! Maybe he'd better lay back down and enjoy it while he could. =)
